Integrated steel plant construction projects are complex, with uncertainties and change being a norm. Changing business and economic conditions require that changes be accommodated for the success of the project. Changes are also the means by which projects’ products are refined and improved. Some are market driven, some regulation driven and others engineering driven. However, projects with significant change activity and risk exposure fare consistently poorer and are more likely to lead to late cost and schedule impacts. The impact of changes and uncertainty across the project lifecycle can often be severe, threatening the basic commercial viability of the projects and may lead to eventual suspensions and abandonments.
